Since 1975 I have had the privilege of
studying with several excellent potters:
Tom Mason in Charlotte, N.C.; the late
Charles Counts, at Rising Fawn
Georgia; Glenn Dair at Callenwold in
Atlanta and most recently I fulfilled a
long time dream of spending a week
absorbed with pottery at John
Campbell Folk Art School in North
Carolina.
The first time I sat down at a wheel "it was love at
first pot!" Hours seem to fly by as I become
engrossed in my creations. I am not a production
potter, rather I love being both playful and practical.
I find it most satisfying to alternate the spontaneity of
hand built pieces with more functional work done at
the wheel. Recently I have become interested in
textural and wax resist designs on my pots. Some
might consider it tedious work but for me it is
relaxing. It is a joy to be able to explore more of the
creative gifts with which I have been blessed.
One practical thing to note is that all my
glazes are lead free and microwave and
dishwasher safe. However, please do not take
stoneware pottery (mine or that of other
potters) directly from the refrigerator to a hot
oven. The result is likely to be a broken pot,
ruined food and a big mess.
You will not find dozens of identical creations
when you look at my work. I invest a lot of
myself in each piece I make and feel a personal
connection with each item. Your appreciation of
my work is truly a gift to me. I hope you will
enjoy your selection and give it a good home
where you can continue to feel joyful when you
see or use this addition to your living or working
space.
